Genealogy
Okay, so I don't do anything half-way!
I throw myself head-over-heels into any
project that I start, including my
genealogy!
My grandmother infused into me a love of
family history, and I've spent the last
fifteen years researching her family names:
BRADSTREET, BURSLEY, SCOTT, SIMPSON,
STANWOOD, THOMAS, WASGATT/WESCOTT, WHITE and
related families. My research first
took me Minnesota, where my grandmother was
born. I visited the the cities of her
relatives and ancestors, who had moved
during the 1870s to the Minneapolis,
Northfield, Faribault, Monticello and nearby
towns.
After my grandmother passed away in
January 2004, my mother and I decided to
take a trip in her memory, to learn more
about her family's heritage. Since I'd
already been to Minnesota twice, we decided
upon Maine, where both the Stanwood and
Bursley families resided during the 1700 and
1800s. We visited Bangor,
Chester, Woodville, Elsworth and Bar Harbor,
Maine. I FELL IN LOVE! My dream
is to someday own a summer, vacation home in
Bar Harbor, formerly known as Eden, where my
6th great grandfather, Job Stanwood and his
cousin Abraham Somes, were pioneers!
Below are some of the photos taken during
my trips to Maine in August 2004 and May
2005. I hope to visit again in 2007.
Cordelia Stanwood's homestead
This potato barn is in Chester, Penobscot County, Maine, a town where my Scott & Stanwood ancestors lived. A stream off of "B Rd" in Lincoln, Penobscot Co, Maine. Duck Brook in Bar Harbor (formerly Eden), Maine, where my 6th Great Grandfather, Job Stanwood, resided in the late 1700s. Duck Brook Bridge is part of the Carriage Roads in what is now known as Bar Harbor, Maine. To me, however, it represents the homestead of my 6th Great Grandfather, Job Stanwood, who moved from Gloucester, MA to Duck Brook in the 1700s. Property owned by my Stanwood ancestors in Bar Harbor (formerly Eden), Maine overlooks the Frenchman's Bay. A beautiful area along the carriage roads in Bar Harbor, ME. The homestead of Cordelia Stanwood, an ornithologist, taken at the Stanwood Bird Sanctuary in Elsworth, Maine. Like me, Cordelia was also a decendant of Job Stanwood.
